Effect of Methyl Salicylate on Developing Rat Embryos

Abstract
Sprague-Dawley priniiparous rats were given a single injection of the methyl salicylate, by the, subcutaneous route on the 7th or 9th or 11th day of gestation.
The "numbers of yellow bodies, ¢¥survival rate, body weight of live fetuses, gross anomalies induced-ln the fetuses were estimated on the 22nd day,of pregnancy, and the following results were obtained.¢¥"
1. On the basis of present results, the difference between the numbers of yellow bodies of control and treated group were little.
2. Survival rate and body weight of live fetuses were increased steadily as the days of injection pass from 7th to 9th or 11th.
3. Anomalies of cleft palates were observed in the highest incidence after injection on the 11th gestation day, whereas anomalies of tail showed the highest incidence after injection on the 7th gestation day.
